Sweet Valley Confidential by Francine Pascal

If you’re in your twenties or early thirties, like I am, you probably grew up with the Sweet Valley twins.  The writing didn’t challenge you and the characters didn’t have too much depth, but you potentially read the entire series. Me, I read all 118 books in the Sweet Valley Twins series not to mention any number of Super Editions, Super Chillers, and most likely a few Sweet Valley Kids books.

My parents probably hated that I read these books, with little to no literary merit, but the repetitive nature of their plot lines drew me in, and I couldn’t help but pick up the next one, no matter how derivative of the last.

Pascal finished writing about the Wakefield twins in the early 2000s with the Sweet Valley University series (which I never read) and fans wondered what would happen to Jessica and Elizabeth when they reached adulthood. Early this year she published an epilogue of sorts, Sweet Valley Confidential, which takes place 10 years after the conclusion of the series and catches us up on our old favorites back in Sweet Valley.

So while not a “good” book, if you want to find out how Todd and Jessica betrayed Elizabeth, or how Lila Fowler’s marriage is going, this is the quick summer read for you.
